DISP Myanmar Higher Education Teachers' Training Program
The Asia Center at Arizona State University (ASU) is launching a year-long program aimed at improving digital and blended teaching methodologies for Myanmar’s higher education teachers. This program responds to the needs of our institutional partners in Myanmar and will cover digital, blended, and inclusive teaching practices. It will help participants build professional networks, develop open access teaching resources, and gain foundational knowledge for fostering an inclusive higher education system in Myanmar.

Running from October to May, this program invites one hundred faculty members from institutions of higher education in Myanmar to join us online. Participants will be working with diverse cohorts and experts who will help facilitate their learning process. Upon completion, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from ASU. Tuition for participation is entirely free.

Juliane Schober
Juliane Schober (PhD., University of Illinois) is Professor of Religious Studies and an anthropologist of religion, working primarily on Myanmar Buddhist formations and the Theravada Buddhist traditions of Southeast Asia. She has served as Director of the Asia Center at ASU since 2011. Her areas of research include Theravada Buddhist practices in Southeast Asia, especially Myanmar (Burma), Anthropology of Religion; Material Culture, Media and Aesthetics; Icons; Ritual; Modernity, Politics and Religion; Colonial Studies; and Conflict and Civil Society.
Chan Lwin
Chan Lwin (M.P.H, University of Arizona, 2018) is the Program Manager at the Asia Center at ASU . She is a doctoral student in Innovation in Global Development program at the College of Global Futures, ASU. Lwin has extensive language teaching experience at the Arizona State University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a U.S. Department of Education grant to develop Open Educational Resource (OER) textbook for Intermediate Level Burmese. Lwin's research interest includes Science and Technology Studies (STS), Genetics & Citizenship, Governance, Responsible Innovation and Public Policies. Lwin is a native Burmese speaker, and has some proficiency in German as well as Chinese.
Maw Maw Tun
Maw Maw Tun is the PhD Candidate in Education Technology at Northern Illinois University, and a Research Scholar at Arizona State University. She has received her TESOL degree in 2020, and has extensive training and experience with teaching Burmese. Her thesis, titled, 'Learners' Perceptions of Willingness to Communicate in Myanmar,' examines Myanmar EFL learners' perceptions of factors that influence their desire to speak in a classroom context.
