The School of International Letters and Cultures offers courses in the following Asian languages that help students develop their linguistic competence or acquire language skills necessary to conduct research, visit or travel in Asia.

The Center for Asian Research is served by four councils divided by region: Northeast Asia (North Korea, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan), South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka) and Southeast Asia (Myanmar/Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Timor-Leste), and China. Each council is comprised of faculty, graduate students, and associates who teach courses on their respective regions and who represent various disciplines.
