The Center for Asian Research is served by four councils divided by region: Northeast Asia (North Korea, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan), South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka) and Southeast Asia (Myanmar/Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Timor-Leste), and China. Each council is comprised of faculty, graduate students, and associates who teach courses on their respective regions and who represent various disciplines.
The nations of East, Southeast, and South Asia are home to over one-half of the world’s population and economic growth. Asia currently plays and will continue to play a central role in the issues and challenges of the 21st century: from the management of conflicts and tension arising from population growth and decline, climate change, and resource scarcity; to the successful navigation of political realignments in a newly multipolar world; to managing the lingering after-effects of European imperialism in postcolonial societies.
Asian Studies and the ASU libraries host several collections of art, artifacts and photographs of Asia. Please browse the menu to view more of each collection.
