A number of leading organizations in Korea are marked by strictly hierarchical cultures, which may occasion inequitable distribution of power, reinforced bureaucratic norms, and status-induced behavior control. Although power disparities may hinder overt resistance, Korean workers have turned to anonymous social media to develop resistance tactics.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships provide funding to students to encourage the study of critical and less commonly taught foreign languages in combination with area studies, international studies or international aspects of professional studies. These fellowships are funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Funding is available to both undergraduate and graduate ASU students.

Sage Scholarship

Description

The purpose of the scholarship is to support travel and study abroad in Laos and/or any of the following countries: Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. It is uniquely available to undergraduate students at Arizona State University. The Sage Family Southeast Asian Studies Scholarship is a tribute to William W. Sage’s interest in and lifelong work in Laos and Southeast Asia and is provided in loving memory and honor of his parents, Lloyd G. and Twyla M. Sage.

Meet U Kyaw Thu. He is a two-time Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Award winner and a humanitarian star who has helped popularize free funeral service in Myanmar. Kyaw Thu is the reason that I decided to dedicate my summer field research this year to an organization that he helped found in 2001 and has headed the Yangon Free Funeral Service Society since 2008.
