This year, the Asia Center at ASU is the recipient of a two-year grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Education. The grant comes at a crucial time in the development of relations between Taiwan and ASU, and our programming seeks to promote global research and teaching on Taiwan. Our project, entitled “Taiwan Studies in Arizona: Global Connections, Collaborations, and Convergences,” will sponsor a wide range of activities including invited lectures and workshops, curriculum development, an international conference, and Taiwan-related research funding for ASU faculty and students. Our programming is predicated on the idea that cultural understanding and a nuanced knowledge of Taiwanese culture, society, history, and literature are central to the successful establishment of connections between Taiwan and Arizona. Keep an eye on this space for information about upcoming events and funding opportunities.
